Early magazine covers were made like a book, they gave only a title and the date it was published. The problem with this is that any information about it was only left inside. From early magazines they had figured they needed cover lines which do tell a bit about the magazine inside.
Poster covers are said to be a dominate magazine cover, the cover sometimes didn't relate to the magazine article inside but can tell the mood and tone of the article. Poster magazines had brought cover competition with the audience. Pictures married to type, these magazine covers had brought both the cover lines and the poster together. A nice poster and some healthy cover lines on top of it had came forth in magazine covers. In a forest of words, the cover lines are just as important now as the cover photo is.
