Final Extra Credit

1. The man had been pushed onto the tracks by another. The man that had been pushed onto the tracks was only trying to calm another down, but him falling to the tracks had led to his death by a subway. He was trying to escape the tracks and couldnt. There was a photographer at the scene and apparently had tried helping by using the flash towards the train conductor hoping that the conductor would stop, in him trying to flash the conductor he captured a couple images of the scene.
2. He said he took the photo because he was trying to help the man by using the flash of the camera.
3. Like the comments say, i dont think shooting a flash at the direction of the conductor will indicate stop. Also I dont think taking a picture of someones death is a very great idea, especially when right there and could probably save the person. So no, i think the picture shouldnt have been taking.
4. I think the photographer didnt know what to do so he just started to take pictures. Its not the best idea, i think he couldve done something better.
5. I disagree with putting this image on the newspaper. I feel like they couldve used something else. Like a picture of the empty subway. Yes the image is eye catching but the image is showing something that shouldnt be publicly announced like that.
6. I feel like stopping bad things from happening is a more important thing to do. You could not only save a couple people or things but also yourself. An there is always another journalist to do a report on whatever it is.
7. I think the photographer should not be involved. They should just stay behind the camera and stick to what they know. If they do get involved, then who knows where the may end up.
8. I believe they should avoid influencing events, just take the picture as it is happening, as if the photojournalist isnt even there.
9. The appropriate thing to do is just keep it cool and keep living with what the people say. If they feel as if they did the right thing then they should be fine. If it gets to them then just go see or talk to someone.

Final Review unfinished

1.
Oct. 30, 2014. Queen Elizabeth II leaves following an official visit to International Security Printers to view their work on specialist postage stamps in Wolverhampton, U.K.
Old Lady Rabbie Oli Looks out her window to see the colors running in her window.  Driving down the road in the backseat of every cop car she remembered that she had left her refrigerator running.
Oct. 25, 2014. Kurdish boys play in a field near the Syrian border at the southeastern village of Yumurtalik, Sanliurfa province, Turkey.
Bawbi jahons is running away from the beastly cows with his friends. On a good day, Bawbi would  do this with his friends for fun.
Oct. 30, 2014. An armed Israeli right wing activists stand at the entrance to the Western Wall and the Al-Aqsa compound, the third most holiest site in Islam, in Jerusalem's Old City. Israeli authorities close the compound for the first time since the second Intifada following an assassination attempt of the Israeli right-wing activist Rabbi Yehuda Glick.
Rodolfo heimen is looking for his fresh nikes that he lost. Mr Hiemen is a professional Nike shoe collector and seller.
2.(a)- Rule of thirds, the image is split into a grid and it is best to have the subject in one of these corner  points instead of centered
(b)- Balance, Have another object  that isn't important to fill the empty space that your main object doesn't fill
(c)- Leading Lines, our eyes follow the lines to the point that they are directing. Because of this, with the lines you have, it changes the way we see the image
(d)-Symmetry and Patterns (repetition), Simply having a something repeating to catch the eye or have your object symmetrical to another
(e)-Viewpoint, when taking photo each angle you take it from changes the composition in the photo, should be planned before taking the picture
(f)-Background, have a simple background like a solid black one will be great behind the subject you're taking a picture of, it brings it out
(g)-Create Depth, instead of having a image that looks very 2D you would create a feel of depth by including a background foreground and middle ground to it. Also having things be obscured helps.
(h)-Framing, in your image you have your subject framed by other things in the image like color or other objects. The main subject is in the middle of it.
(i)-Cropping, cropping around the image can remove the business in the backgrounds and give focus to the subject
(j)-Mergers and avoiding them, having two things come towards each other, like the same color on top of each other or have someone cropped off or having it seem that things are running into the subject. To avoid them, make sure you have a simple background and before you take a picture make sure you have everything in frame.

3.Aperture- aperture is sort of like our eyes of the camera. it impacts the depth of the image making the background blurred or it can sharpen the image
Shutter speed- The speed that it takes to snap a photo. To fast and you don't get enough light and the image comes to be to dark. To slow and to much light comes in and the image comes out really white
ISO- Iso is about quality of the image. If action and fast movement shots are needed or the image is to dark then high ISO is needed. It will be grainy. If there is a good amount of light and the image isn't moving then low ISO is best because it gives the best quality

4. Something that acceptable is maybe changing a little strand of hair or if there is to much color is one spot, something that isn't acceptable would be like changing the size and shape of a person place or thing.

4.It is not ethically acceptable to change a persons appearance because thats not showing who that person is and showing that that they do not care about how they appear on covers. No one will really know these models and may be shocked. These are fakes.
5. When trying to make someone not so "attractive"
6. The type of changes is like if there was a piece of hair sticking up or some strings hanging off clothing, it is not ok to change peoples faces or bodies completely
7.  I think the difference between fashion photography and photoj is that you can manipulate the picture by changing the clothes and deciding the models and of course having the ability of being able to change them completely on the computer. An in PhotoJ you take photos on the spot and in which they happen.
8.The relationship that each type of photography has to reality is the reality that they both capture a story but in different ways. One is staged and the other is actually real.
9. To show us that not all photography is true photography and/or it is not cool to change a person completely.
10.Because people look towards woman more than men most of the time

Magazine part 2

Early magazine covers were made like a book, they gave only a title and the date it was published. The problem with this is that any information about it was only left inside. From early magazines they had figured they needed cover lines which do tell a bit about the magazine inside.
Poster covers are said to be a dominate magazine cover, the cover sometimes didn't relate to the magazine article inside but can tell the mood and tone of the article. Poster magazines had brought cover competition with the audience. Pictures married to type, these magazine covers had brought both the cover lines and the poster together. A nice poster and some healthy cover lines on top of it had came forth in magazine covers. In a forest of words,  the cover lines are just as important now as the cover photo is.

My Favorite Cover (Portrait)

"New York’s “Spring Fashion” cover with actress Elle Fanning has artist Will Cotton revisiting Johannes Vermeer’s famous painting “Girl With a Pearl Earring” in pose, expression, and lighting, while Fanning’s Vivienne Westwood–inspired headpiece made of icing and designed by Cotton prepares readers for the stunning “Candy Land” portfolio inside the magazine. Cotton has been using candy in his artwork “as a metaphor for pure pleasure” since the late nineties, and used spring looks as inspiration for New York."
This magazine cover is my favorite cover of all the covers, the subject has been brought forward with using a simple background and keeping the words off of her. They had put the words behind her and the left and right not as big and eye-catching as the image. The main area of focus is her headpiece and her questioning face. The font and color of it goes well against the black. I think its the right size because you can figure what its about by the large font on top, "Spring Fashion". The one problem with it is that i feel they could've used not such a powerful light. Her back seems to exposed in the light. Seems like it should be a darker area.

American Solider

1. The most powerful photo is photo 78 of Ian mom. I think seeing your any mom cry is pretty hard.  An being able to see someone, especially your own son, after a long period of time must be a lot to take in.
2. Set 1:1-7
Set 2: 8-30
Set 3: 31-48
Set 4: 49-82
I think the first set is the most powerful, having to leave your civil life to the army life is a big transition and takes a toll not only on the loved ones around you but most importantly yourself.
The images work well together to tell a story because they keep his personal life included with it.
3.The captions are all in present tense when Ian is the main subject of that photo. The captions enhance the photos by driving the story and giving details that might not be seen in the photos.
4.
Caption One Photo(71) Mr. Carter and his wife are waiting in a airport for the arrival of their son. Mr.Carter pulls his cell phone from his pocket wondering why he isn't there already. While mom keeps watch for his arrival.
Caption Two Photo(6) Jarod is hugging his brothers before departing on his adventure. Father Carter is talking to Jarods mentor by the car as they wait for Jarod to hurry on with his love fest.
Caption Three Photo(15) Jarod is sitting in the offices of the fort. Jarod realizes that this army life is not what it seemed to be. He is deciding whether he will continue his adventure or stop and head back to his Civil life.

Self portrait assignment; Plan

I would like to shoot Mathias M. I would like to shoot a strange casual portrait in the F hall boys bathroom. To make it a successful shot i would like apply a frame rule and make sure he is making the best and most serious face possible.

Casual Portraits

I like this casual portrait because this guy looks very happy, too happy, and has no eyebrows.
I like this one because when i see this guy, I think of "dat guy."

Photography Self portraits

I like this self portrait because of how strange it is.
I also like this self portrait because of how unreal it is, sort of disturbing to look at but i still like it. Reminds me of human centipede.

Environmental Pictures

I like this portrait because the chef, fish killer, seems like he is having a blast with what he is doing.

I like this portrait because the cranberry worker also looks like he loves what he does.

Self portraits and portraits Part 1 And rules of photography part 2: three tips

16. Take Unfocused Shots

As photographers we have ‘sharp focus’ drummed into us as an ultimate objective to achieve in our work – but sometimes lack of focus can create shots with real emotion, mood and interest.
There are two main strategies for taking unfocused images that work:
1. Focus upon one element of the image and leave your main subject blurred. To do this use a large aperture which will create a narrow depth of field and focus upon something in front of or behind your subject.
2. Leave the full image out of focus. To do this again choose a wide aperture but focus well in front or behind anything that is in your image (you’ll need to switch to manual focussing to achieve this).
These kinds of shots can be incredibly dreamy and mysterious.
Settings—The Other Subject
The settings in which you make pictures of people are important because they add to the viewer's understanding of your subject. The room in which a person lives or works, their house, the city street they walk, the place in which they seek relaxation—whatever it is, the setting provides information about people and tells us something about their lives. Seek balance between subject and environment. Include enough of the setting to aid your image, but not so much that the subject is lost in it.

4. Experiment with Lighting

Another element of randomness that you can introduce to your portraits is the way that you light them. There are almost unlimited possibilities when it comes to using light in portraits.
Side-lighting can create mood, backlighting and silhouetting your subject to hide their features can be powerful.

Aperture, Shutter speed, And ISO

1. We should relate aperture to our eyes
2. The smaller the aperture the larger the F-stop, the larger the aperture the smaller the F-stop
3. Aperture impacts the depth of field by blurring the option of making the image have a blurred background or a sharpened image

High shutter speed

slow shutter speed
a)High
b)Slow
c)Slow
d)High
e)High
f)High

a)Slow
b)High

d)Slow
e)Slow
f)High

2. Aperture priority, in this mode the camera takes control of the shutter speed and you have to control the aperture on the lens.
Shutter priority, in this mode you are selecting the shutter speed and the camera decides on the aperture.
Manual, in this mode you decide the shutter speed and the aperture yourself.
ISO 200(left) ISO 3200(right)
1. If it is low lighted it is able to capture that image and it freezes the shots to get ultra fast motions in your images.
2. When you have plenty of light make sure it is on the lowest ISO for the best quality
3. Use high ISO when there isn't much light and your need to capture fast shots
Aperture settings 2.8-22
Shutter speed settings 1sec-1/4000sec
ISO settings 100-25600

Husband Took These Photos of His Wife And Captured Love And Loss Beautifully

1. The emotions that i had felt while looking at these photos is a feeling that is related to like being down i guess, not so sure what to call it.
2. I think he means that the photos that he documented are actually what they did and and how it really was instead of what they were like.
3. I could but afterwards i don't think i could keep them, it would be hard to look at them but also bring good memories
4. I would say good job showing a story that some people could relate to.

Abandoned Theme Parks

1. The theme park that i would like to go to with a camera is Six Flags New orleans. Ive been to six flags before and it was impossible to see a lot of things with the amount of people there and to go into a park with no one in it besides the wild life. An to show people what made them happy now looks.
2.
3. New Zealand Hobbiton
Local Gas Station
Creepy motels
Prisons
Mine shafts
4.
5. Hobbiton would be the best place to document, It is such a beautiful place. Not only hobbiton but the whole country of new Zealand. Im very interested in this place because this is only a place that you see in the movies and in your head from description, so going in there and taking photos of the real thing would be awesome.
6. It would take a lot to get over to new Zealand alone. I bet it would be extremely expensive because i would not want to go alone. I would want to take a group of people with me to take photos. A lot of cameras and ways to develop or transfer them across the world right after we would take them. Im not sure about the laws but I'm sure it would be ok to take photos in Hobbiton.

Africa

1. I really enjoyed what I had seen and read, very interesting. I think Mr. Brandt is a patient hardworking man, not matter how long or hard it is of a task, he will get what he wants. Uhm, he is obsessed with this kind of work which I'm not sure is healthy or not but thats what he is into. At the same time though, this obsession is showing so many people so much and helping what we wants. So this is pretty rad.
2.
3. A dark image of a bat that has left its body hanging by a tree in its sleep state surrounded in spiked sticks or spiked tree branches with a rocky hill and a light sky in the background, I'm not so sure why i like it, its just a photo i saw and it just came out more than the others.
4. In this photo i see the rule of framing. The bat is framed by the spiked twigs surrounding it.
5.Mr.Brandt shot in film and used photoshop on it, this is important to know so if people want to take the same kind they will know.
6. To show what people aren't seeing and to send a message out for help and support.
7. To see people donating into these organizations to help.
8. "Simply, I find myself indescribably moved every time I go to these places and see these animals in these settings."

Great Black and White Photographers Part 3

1)The first thing that had caught my eye in Mr.Penn's photos were the faces of the characters and the really dark areas of the photos. I chose these because i saw them and then saw a load of different stories that could go along with them.
2) I smell fish and feet.
I see misery in one face and adventure in the other.
I hear crying one, excitement in the other.
I taste death in one, and victory in the other.
I feel unhelpful in one, and in one i see fake.
3) I think the best thing to show my photographer off is a poster. I really nice poster.

Photo Mural Project

1. A theme that we could take at school is plant life and the famous tree in the middle of the school, I'm not so sure.
2. I say we should use phones only because mostly everyone is familiar with the camera on their phones. For those that are not I'm sure we could share.
3. An area of interest that the mural could go is in the cafeteria

Academic Shoot; Lines

1. I don't think i did very well on this photo with following rule. This wasn't the original image that i had chose for this rule.
2. The Subject of this photo is the lines made with the cases and the books.
3. It is not very clear what the subject is in this photo.
4. I think i should've taken way more photos of this rule because I'm sure it was everywhere but i just really didn't capture it.

Academic shoot; Simplicity

1. I think the rule is shown in this photo but it isn't shown the best.
2. The subject is the boy in the chair against the gray flooring.
3. It is very clear what the subject is in this photo, it is the center of the photo.
4. I think I could've shot the photo from a better angle so that its just the boy and the floor with nothing else.

Academic Shoot; Rule Of Thirds

1. I followed the rule in this photo. There is just that cup that ruins the photo.
2. The subject in this is the girl drawing at the table but the cup is catching all of the attention.
3. I  think its clear that the girl is the subject but then the cup is what drags them away from her.
4. The way i could make the picture better and show the rule better is getting rid of the cup.

Academic Shoot; Balance

1. I think i followed the rule really well in this one. This wasn't going to be my balance photo but with a second glance I thought it would be better than my original one.
2. The subject in this photo is the dark squares created by the repeated columns.
3. Its not very clear unless you're looking for the rule. I see people thinking that the two gentlemen at the table are the subjects.
4. I think it could make this better by capturing the same photo but without the kids.

Academic Shoot; Framing

1. I think I followed the rule pretty well. I feel like i should've gotten closer and not include the book case or the outer part if the cart.
2. The subject of the photo is the girl working on the table surrounded by the moving book shelf.
3. It is pretty clear that the subject is the girl working on the table.
4. I could make this better by not getting the surrounding environment.

Classrooms Around the Campus

1. I think i can take photos i have seen today in only a few rooms around the bowie campus, ones where the people are moving around and doing stuff and not just reading or something. In a classroom where there is a lot of activity going on.
2. I would like to visit a gym class, or a guitar class or one of the heated debate classrooms.
3. Make sure to take photos that are really immersive and really makes you feel like it really happened and wasn't staged. An take photos of people in action and make it look like I'm not there at all.

Academics and Community Service

1. I have chosen the photo of the woman speaking into the elderly mans ear with the american flag in the background as my favorite photo.  I chose this photo because of its title going along with the photo and how they have included the american flag in the photo.
2. In this Photo I see two rules of photography in this photo, i see 3 rules of photography, i see the two people being framed by the flag and the edges of the photo. I see simplicity as well, these two are speaking to each other and they have been set in front of a simple black background, and then rule of thirds, they are set in the bottom right quadrant.

Filling The Frame

This photo is filled with lots of different people doing a lot of things filling it with multiple things to look at at a time.

Action and Emotion

The action in this photo was explosive bubbles shooting out of the picture and al over, the emotion being the surprised faces on these two ladies.

Best Story

I think this photo tells the story of a teenage girl trying to make whatever she is doing perfect and trying not to mess up her perfect leaf placement

Photo Manipulation and Ethics

2.
A.
I find this edit being the most ethical. Like, its pretty bad that they would change the way someone looks but maybe she's into the new look, an its not a very big change to her, maybe if they changed something like her nose then it would be very unethical.

B.
I find this being the most unethical photo. Not only is it changing a major piece of history and culture to a nation but it is also coming from a big company that we go to to see things that we can't. An for them to take something like the pyramids which means so much to people is just not a cool thing to do.

Photo Manipulation and Ethics

1.
A.The story, Ethics i the age of digital manipulation, was a long listing of photo editors that have taken actual photos of events and has altered them. Some of these photo editors were in big time companies changing the face of these photographs. Making others look a certain way, or fooling around with the photo hoping no one noticed lead them all to being fired and and having all their works terminated.
B. I think this is a very unethical thing to do. Taking what people really want to see and need to know and changing it to make us think others or trying to be funny or being pure lazy. Adding your own opinion to the photo is something no one wants to see. Or giving false Information to people about things can lead to large amounts of trouble for not only the editor but for everyone.

Post Shoot Reflection

1. The challenges that i encountered while trying to get the photos for the four prompts was me finding trying to find creative ways to show the prompts. I think i got the Bowie Prompt pretty well for creativeness.
2.The way i held the camera and took the picture of most of my things was in a way where you can see the object from its side and not so straight on.
3.If I could do this assignment again i would take pictures that actually include the basic photography skills, as many as i could. Probably not take pictures of the first things i saw.
4.The things i would keep the same, i would keep taking the photos from the side a bit ad try and keep it interesting and creative.
5. I believe i have achieved rule of thirds on the bowie photo and balance on the the square one, not sure about the others. They're so great.
6. I would not be interested in shooting the same prompts again, try new and maybe challenging prompts.
7.The rule that I am not totally clear with is balance, a way to figure out what the rule is is by studying up on examples of it before going out for it.

Avoiding Mergers

In this photo there is a merger and it shows that the plane might be flying into the building which it will.

Framing

This photo shows a framing by closing the ball of smoke around the buildings and the end of the photograph.
